EARTH DAY 2011

"A Prayer for Our Mother...Earth"

Precious Mother.

Without her, we do not exist.

We arise from her in

seasons of beauty

and are rooted in her

throughout creation.

Our forefathers respected

the lands and the seas.

They realized their

divine unity.

But now, the pendulum has swung,

we are reaping what we have sown

through the millenia.

We have severed our deepest connections

with Mother Earth.

Our lack of love has allowed humanity

to abuse her and take her for granted.

We have devolved from our primal unity

into immorality manifesting as neglect

and destruction of our home planet.

This is a prayer of gratitude for our Earth,

her 'tolerance and patience' with humanity

even as she is endlessly raped and plundered.

Because humans have neglected to acknowledge,

to recognize, the divinity in all creation.

When we neglect beauty, we lose it.

When we preserve beauty, it stays with us forever.

[to paraphrase Frank Lloyd Wright]

Some are aware that humanity is just a blip

on the radar screen of eternity,

while others mistakenly assume

that people will always inhabit this planet.

But change is the only constant

and to Mother Earth, it does not matter

whether humanity survives or perishes.

Indeed, perhaps there will be heard a

cosmic sigh of relief when we are gone.

We pray that humanity begins to remember the truth.

The divine is omnipresent.

We are one with all creation.

If we do not act respectfully and lovingly

toward all life and Mother Earth herself,

we will perish.

It is our choice.

Humanity's future is determined by our choices today.

If we don't start making better choices,

we'll never get a second chance.

For the sake of all,

let us pray we choose wisely.
